Delaying retirement? Many directors over 67 are still at work

A growing number of business owners are continuing to work well past retirement age, but not always by choice.

Featured in The Times, Bowmore Head of Distribution Charles Incledon commented on the Companies House data revealing that nearly 1 in 10 company directors are now aged 67 or over, with over 105,000 directors aged over 80.

“Centering your retirement strategy around selling your business can be a very high-risk approach” Charles told The Times.

“If it doesn’t pan out as expected, you can easily find yourself working into your seventies or even beyond.”

While continuing to work later in life can be fulfilling for some, for others it may be a stressful period. Without the right planning, the freedom to choose when and how to retire could be compromised.
